Astra’s concern for the neighbourhood around its head office is reflected through various community development initiatives, including waste management, public and children’s health, tree planting, scholarships and the distribution of food and basic needs packages.
Astra’s integrated waste management initiatives in the area include a composting programme and a paperrecycling project, through which waste paper is recycled to create artistic handicrafts. This initiative is one of the Company’s efforts to develop income-generating activities in the community.
Every year, the Company offers scholarships and other forms of educational assistance to students who live in the neighbourhood. In 2007, Astra provided scholarships to around 600 students from underprivileged families. Broader community development is fostered through a variety of initiatives, including the community cleanliness contests the Company regularly organizes in partnership with its subsidiaries, Astra Daihatsu Motor, Astra Honda Motor, Toyota Astra Motor, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, Gaya Motor, Pulogadung Pawitra Laksana, Federal International Finance, Auto2000 and local government offices. Astra also joins the community in celebrating the Idul Fitri festival by distributing basic food packages to underprivileged residents in the vicinity of Astra’s offices. During the Idul Adha festivities each year Astra also donates livestock to the community.
