The company believes that the purpose of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is not merely to comply with government regulations or policies but to demonstrate the Company’s genuine commitment and dedication to building and sustaining partnerships between the company and the surrounding community that will enable them to achieve prosperity together.

In 2005, the Company spent approximately Rp 2.3 billion on the CSR program. CSR in Bakrie & Brothers is implemented through two key approaches. The first of these is community-based development, which makes use of local resources and works in tandem with local government development programs, and is therefore sustainable. Programs are formulated by identifying and analyzing the needs of the local community, mapping existing resources and potential in the way helps the community towards self-determination and builds confidence in their own ability to achieve progress and prosperity together. The second approach is charity or philanthropic programs. While we believe that helping people to build their own capacity for development and income generation ultimately results in greater long-term benefits to the community, charitable donations are, in some cases, the most practical and necessary response.
